Founded in 2026 and headquartered in Salching, Germany, Sturm Surface Technology GmbH strengthens the Sonplas Group with extensive expertise in surface technology. The company builds on the long-standing experience and proven technologies of the former Sturm Group. Around 80 employees engineer and build customized machines and systems for Thermal Surface Technology, Painting Technology and Automation & Vision Technology. In doing so, we combine proven surface technology expertise with Sonplas’ capabilities in automation, assembly and testing.
Every component, every surface, and every production process comes with its own unique requirements. This is precisely where Sturm Surface Technology excels: We develop tailored solutions that seamlessly integrate coating, painting, handling, assembly, inspection, and process data integration—from standalone special-purpose machines to fully integrated production lines.

At Sturm Surface Technology, thermal surface technology, painting technology, and automation and measurement technology work seamlessly together. This enables us to create customized system solutions in which every process step—from development and testing to engineering, manufacturing, commissioning, and ongoing operational support—is precisely coordinated. Our in-house technology center allows us to test and validate processes at an early stage and refine them for series production. A high-performance system starts with a process that is aligned from the outset with the component, the quality requirements, and the conditions of future production. We therefore test and validate key process steps at an early stage and incorporate the findings into an integrated system concept. The interaction of process technology, engineering, automation, and measurement technology provides the basis for reproducible results, reliable industrialization, and stable long-term operation. Even after production has started, we support the optimization, adaptation, and modernization of existing systems.

Our competencies
Our technologies address key stages of the value chain: They give components functional surfaces, protect them against wear and corrosion, and make quality measurable. With ACCS and ADCS, we implement high-performance coating systems for cylinder bores and brake discs, closely integrating coating, inspection, and optimization processes. Our portfolio also includes UV painting systems for battery cells, painting solutions for brake discs, as well as cleanroom, assembly, and handling processes. Non-contact 2D and 3D measurement technology and our proprietary inspector systems capture relevant surface characteristics directly within the process, providing the basis for data-driven process optimization.
